Dutch Foreign Minister issues statement on child detention

[January 2015] - On 15 January 2015, the Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bert Koenders, provided a written update to the Dutch Parliament on the situation facing Palestinian children prosecuted in Israeli military courts in the West Bank. Concern has increased significantly following the release of a report by UNICEF.

Do official Israeli Prison Service figures present the full picture?

[January 2015] - Each month the Israeli Prison Service (IPS) releases data on the number of Palestinian children detained in its facilities. These figures are based on a single head-count conducted at the end of each month and only provide a snapshot of the number of children held on a single day.

Rome Statute enters into force on 1 April 2015

[January 2015] - According to the UN Treaty Collection website the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court will enter into force in Palestine on 1 April 2015. A non-party State can activate retroactive jurisdiction of the Court by depositing a declaration with the Registrar of the Court pursuant to Article 12(3) of the Statue.

Palestine moves to join the ICC

[January 2015] - On 31 December 2014, the Palestinian President signed documents requesting membership of the International Criminal Court (ICC). The signed documents will now be submitted to the UN Secretary General who will consider the application.

Australian Government claims legal privilege to question on Geneva IV

[December 2014] - The Abbott Government has claimed legal professional privilege in response to a question in parliament regarding the application of the Fourth Geneva Convention to the Occupied Palestinian Territories although there is near universal acceptance and binding legal authority that the Convention applies.
