Rome Statute enters into force on 1 April 2015

[January 2015] - According to the UN Treaty Collection website the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court will enter into force in Palestine on 1 April 2015. A non-party State can activate retroactive jurisdiction of the Court by depositing a declaration with the Registrar of the Court pursuant to Article 12(3) of the Statue.

Palestine moves to join the ICC

[January 2015] - On 31 December 2014, the Palestinian President signed documents requesting membership of the International Criminal Court (ICC). The signed documents will now be submitted to the UN Secretary General who will consider the application.

Australian Government claims legal privilege to question on Geneva IV

[December 2014] - The Abbott Government has claimed legal professional privilege in response to a question in parliament regarding the application of the Fourth Geneva Convention to the Occupied Palestinian Territories although there is near universal acceptance and binding legal authority that the Convention applies.

Switzerland hosts Conference of Parties to Geneva IV

[December 2014] - Ten-point Declaration recalling applicable international humanitarian law in the Occupied Palestinian Territory. The conference was hosted by Switzerland in its capacity as Depository of the Geneva Conventions. A small number of parties expressed opposition and did not attend the conference.

MPs seek further clarification from G4S

[December 2014] - MPs seek further clarification from G4S regarding the unlawful detention of Palestinians inside Israel in violation of Article 76 of the Fourth Geneva Convention. The issue of unlawful transfer was not specifically addressed in the company's "independent review".
