State Department Human Rights Report (2023)

[25 April 2024] - This report covers violations in 2023 and considers the treatment of children in military detention. The Report is mandated by Congress and documents human rights conditions in nearly 200 countries and territories. Staff in US embassies around the world compile the information contained in the Report. As in previous years the Report considers the treatment of Palestinian children held in Israeli military detention.

UNICEF: Widespread and systematic abuse of children

[26 March 2024] - Eleven years ago, UNICEF reviewed the treatment of Palestinian children detained by the Israeli military in the occupied West Bank and concluded that "ill-treatment appears to be widespread, systematic and institutionalised throughout the process". This update considers the latest evidence on developments.

The link between illegal Israeli settlements and child detention

[29 February 2024] - Evidence collected over a 12 year period identifies a direct link between illegal Israeli settlements and the detention of Palestinian children in the occupied West Bank. The link is both geographical and logistical with 98 percent of child detainees living within several kilometres of a settlement.

Detention Update

[31 January 2024] - In late January, the Israel Prison Service (IPS) released detention data for the final quarter of 2023. As at the end of December 2023, the IPS data indicates there were 8,308 Palestinian men, women and children being held as "security prisoners" - an increase of 72 percent compared to the end of September.

The unlawful transfer of Ukrainian and Palestinian children

[12 December 2023] - Children are being unlawfully transferred from both occupied Ukraine and the occupied West Bank. In the case of Ukrainian children, arrest warrants were issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) within 12 months of the alleged offence. Up to 32,000 Palestinian children have been transferred without consequences.
