UN Security Council resolution 2334 (2016)

[December 2016] - On 23 December the UN Security Council reaffirmed that Israel's establishment of settlements in Palestinian territory occupied since 1967 have no legal validity, constituting a flagrant violation under international law and a major obstacle to the two state solution.

Notification upon arrest - update

[October 2016] - Since 1967 a re-occurring criticism of the Israeli military's conduct in the West Bank focused on the manner in which children were being arrested in pre-planned raids on their homes. A typical raid would commence at 2 A.M. with banging at the front door accompanied by shouts of "open up".

Pilot programme to limit night arrests - update

[22 September 2016] - Following widespread criticism of the use of night raids to arrest children in the West Bank, the military authorities announced in February 2014, the introduction of a pilot programme to issue written summons in lieu of night arrests. The programme commenced in the Nablus and Hebron districts.

Restraints and blindfolds - Update

[29 August 2016] - Following numerous complaints and legal action concerning pain and injury caused by the use of single plastic hand ties by the Israeli military on detainees, including children, the office of the Military Advocate General announced the introduction of new procedures.

UK lawyers' report: 4 years on less than 3% of recommendations have been implemented

[June 2016] - This month marks four years since a delegation of British lawyers published a report on the treatment of Palestinian children under Israeli military law. The Foreign Office funded report - Children in Military Custody - found undisputed evidence of violations of international law.
