UN complaint submission: children in military detention (2016)

[March 2016] - On 1 March 2016, Military Court Watch (MCW) lodged a complaint submission under the UN Special Procedures mechanism relating to the treatment of children held in Israeli military detention in 2015. Since the publication of a report by UNICEF in 2013 there has been little substantial improvement in the system.

FCO funded lawyers' delegation cancelled due to lack of co-operation

[February 2016] - In June 2012 the report Children in Military Custody was published. The delegation of British lawyers intended on returning to the region in February 2016 to update the report but cancelled the trip following notification that the Israeli government was unwilling to engage.

Request to maintain a watch list at all UK ports of entry

[February 2016] - During a debate on children held in Israeli military detention in the UK Parliament on 6 January 2016, it was recommended that a watch list should be maintained at all UK ports of entry in accordance with the UK's obligations under the Geneva Conventions Act.

FCO response to unlawful transfer of protected persons

[January 2016] - On 2 December 2015, MCW wrote to the British Consulate in Jerusalem raising concerns about the policy of the Israeli Government of transferring protected persons from the West Bank to prisons inside Israel in violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention.

Child detention debate in UK Parliament

[January 2016] - On 6 January 2016, an Adjournment Debate was held in the UK Parliament on Child Prisoners and Detainees: Occupied Palestinian Territories. During the debate the lack of progress in implementing recommendations made by a delegation of British lawyers and UNICEF was raised by a number of MPs.
